Killed in accidental ejection on the ground. Scrambled off the alert pad - took runway and closed canopies. Apparently sand got caught in the cockpit pressure relief valve and the cockpit over pressurized. Before L/C Gene Levy, front seater could pull the pressure dump valve, Mike tried to open the canopy normally. The pressure was so great that the canopy popped off the aircraft and came down on the banana links and fired his ejection seat through the canopy.
